Maybe go on to Kettlewell if everyone agrees.

The planned route is Ilkley, Farnley, Lindley, Almscliffe Crag, Huby, Weeton, Castley, Farnley, Ilkey.

Approximately 32miles at an average speed of around 14mph. There will possibly be a cafe stop near Castley.

'Tour of the Abbeys' Tuesday 3rd September - Kirkham Abbey

Starting from the Old Bridge Ilkley at 9:30

A ride out via Spofforth & Sheriff Hutton to Kirkham Abbey and return via York & Boston Spa. A total of 120 miles with coffee stops, a lunch stop and an end of ride beer or two :) As the route is quite flat the average speed will be about 14-15mph. We will probably be back in Ilkley around 6pm.

There are various points on the way out where riders who need to get back early can loop back.

'Tour of the Abbeys' Tuesday 6th August - Byland Abbey


Starting from the Old Bridge Ilkley at 9:30

A ride out via Ripon to Byland Abbey and return via Ampleforth, Boroughbridge & Knaresborough. A total of 99.4 miles with a coffee stop, a lunch stop and an end of ride beer or two :) As the route back is quite flat the average speed will be about 14-15mph. We will probably be back in Ilkley between 5pm & 6pm.

There are various points on the way out where riders who need to get back early can loop back.

'Tour des Abbayes' Tuesday 16th July - Selby Abbey

Starting from the Old Bridge Ilkley at 9:30

A day out on some flatter roads, 84 miles with a coffee stop, a lunch stop, an afternoon ice-cream stop and an end of ride beer or two :) As the route is mainly flat average speed will be about 14-15mph. We will probably be back in Ilkley between 5pm & 6pm.

There are various points on the way out where riders who need to get back early can turn back.

Tuesday June 4th - Tour of the Abbeys No.3

Sawley & Whalley Abbeys in Lancashire

The ride will follow this route - Map link here -

The journey to Sawley is about 37 miles and we will probably stop for lunch a little further on on near Clitheroe before heading on to Whalley Abbey ,47 miles. We will then head back to Ilkley via Skipton, the inbound journey is ~35 miles. Hopefully we will be back by 6:00pm.

Starting from the Old Bridge at Ilkley at 9:30am. The average speed will be about 13 mph, the route is not very hilly with only 2 longer climbs between Whalley and Skipton.

St Marys Abbey, York
The 2nd of the 'Tour of Abbeys' rides to St Marys Abbey in York.

Starting from the Old Bridge at Ilkley at 9:30am

The ride will follow    map/route link here

The outbound journey is ~40 miles and we will probably stop for lunch on the outskirts of York before heading into the city and onto St Marys Abbey. After a spot of tourism we will head back to Ilkley via Tadcaster, the inbound journey is ~43 miles. Hopefully we will be back before 5:00pm.

The average speed will be about 14 mph, the route is mainly flat and we should be able to maintain a higher speed than normal.

Fountains Abbey Day Out

Starting from the Old Bridge at Ilkley at 9:30am

The outbound journey is approximately 25 miles and we will stop for lunch at one of the cafes at Fountains Abbey, after lunch we will ride through the deer park before heading back to Ilkley via Summerbridge, the return trip is about 30 miles.

The average speed will be about 12.5 mph.
