Welcome to Ilkley Cycling Club

The largest Cycling Club in the UK with over 1000 members

From Recreation to Racing

    ICC in 2015

2015 has proved so far to be another great year for cycling in Yorkshire with the Tour De Yorkshire stage race in May bringing top level pro cycling to our county. Cyclists & non cyclists were out in huge numbers  in Ilkley again watching the riders sprint along the Grove  followed by  the Cow & Calf Climb . We were  given a special mention as Ilkley was referred to as “the capital of cycling in Yorkshire ” by the commentators.

As well as a great spectator sport , cycling is very much an activity  in Ilkley Cycling Club for participants at all levels from those learning to ride with their families , joining in our youth activities or wanting to join one of our social rides ( see the Rides page ), challenging themselves at our renowned White Rose Classic Sportive,( entry here) to our local club racers keen to succeed across all the cycling disciplines ( details on our Racing pages )

Our training day on Saturday 28th Feb at the Steven Burke Sports Hub , Nelson was a great success & well attended by young people and adults – it shows what great use we could make of our own local off road circuit facility – hopefully our plans will see some progress.
Well supported Ilkley Cycling Club race events have included our Open 10 Mile & 25 mile Time trials in March & April.  ICC ’s 2 day team race took place again on the 30th & 31st May with teams competing from all over the country.  The Town Centre Races brought  all of Ilkley out again on June 24th for an even more spectacular evening of racing from youth boys & girls through to the Elite women & men .  The White Rose Classic on June 28th was another great event and our ‘vintage tweed’ ride the day before attracted a colourful bunch of non lycra clad riders  . In October we will be running our really successful ICC Cyclocross event again.

Entries open 10th October for the 2016 edition of the White Rose Classic Sportive on the 26th June 2016 . We have the fabulous Ilkley Rugby Club as our HQ again . The 3 challenging route options ( 50 , 84 & 114 miles) remain virtually the same with a slight change from Burnsall – taking all riders up the Fell to Barden Tower then onto Bolton Abbey rather than via Appletreewick. To encourage even more women new to cycling to participate or for those wanting to challenge themselves to a longer route riding with other women we are offering optional additional women only start times for each route with support riders following the group in case of any problems ( alongside the mechanical etc support offered to all riders). We are also looking into providing a “splash & dash” extra drink station at Settle . Details are now on our website and further information via the BC entry link . A great incentive for autumn & winter training . more details &  entry link here

    Our Aims

    • To promote cycling to the people of Ilkley (and surrounding areas) and to those who cycle in or near our town
    • To provide an avenue for club members to race and compete by having affiliations to governing bodies (British Cycling,  Cycling Time Trials, MTB, cyclocross etc)
    • To provide a focus for recreational cyclists and promote the sport at grassroots level.
    • To be open to all, and to encourage cycling for everyone
